Description
Orange capsicum (bell pepper) is a sweet, thick-walled pepper that turns from green to bright orange as it ripens on the plant. It is crisp and mildly sweet, and is used fresh in salads and cooked in stir-fries, pizzas, curries and grilled dishes.
Sweet pepper is more sensitive to unfavourable environment than chilli. The optimum night temperature for quality fruit production is 16-18°C. When the temperature falls below 16°C for extended periods, growth and yields usually decrease. It can tolerate day temperatures over 30°C and night temperatures of 21-24°C. Grow it in well-drained, fertile soil with full sun and avoid waterlogging.
The colour of bell peppers changes from green to yellow, orange and red the longer they are allowed to mature on the plant. Orange and yellow bell peppers are sweeter than green ones.
